In 1920 the American Professional Football Association opened its doors for business. It consisted of eleven teams. By 1922, the league had changed its name to the National Football League (NFL) and began to make the moves that would make it one of the most successful businesses and sports of all-time.

In 1922, the NFL fielded eighteen teams including the Chicago Bears and the perennial powerhouse the Canton Bulldogs. The teams played twelve games and struggled to survive. Yearly, teams folded and/or moved to communities that were deemed more supportive. Even the mighty Canton Bulldogs moved to Cleveland for the 1924 season and managed to win another title. By 1925, the New York Giants were admitted and the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cardinals made headlines with player signings and a championship, respectively.

The 1930′s were a golden age for franchise instability. Teams were opened and moved at the whim of their owners. In addition, the influx of college athletes made any team capable of contending if they could acquire a Harold “Red” Grange or Bronko Nagurski. This was a time for many franchises to show their fans their staying power. Only a league wide draft would even the playing field.

Well finding out on how to pick your favorite football team can be hard or easy. Sometimes you’ll be torn in two when two of your favorite football teams are playing in the same game. In picking the right team for you, considering these following tips on doing so are essential. First off, you can consider the teams you liked when you were growing up. You can also consider the area where you live. A lot of these football teams have a long history behind them. This is also something to keep in mind. For example, there could be a team called “The Pirates” football team. Just for the simple fact that somebody can be a fan of the team because they like movies about pirates. Something that simple can help you decide on which football team will be yours to pick as your favorite. If you don’t have a favorite football team at the moment. You can even go with your friends and family around you. There is nothing better than having this in common with your family. On day games you can make it a family all day event. Whatever the case may be, football is one of the greatest sports in the world. So picking out a favorite football team sometimes won’t be easy but with taking a few of these ideas into consideration will help.

Both college football teams and NFL teams play a high quality level of football. The enthusiasm surrounding a winning collegiate football program is unmatched anywhere in sports. A top notch NFL team has a raucous fanbase that can’t wait for each Sunday to come. There are some differences between the teams though.

NFL teams run a much more complex style of offense than college teams. Professional athletes are well versed in their craft and study film day after day. Due to this, they know the opposing team’s system very well. To combat this knowledge, offenses have to scheme game plans that can confuse the opponent. By installing complicated offenses, the offense is trying to establish an advantage over the top notch defenses in the league.

A college football program is much more likely to operate a simple offense. Some teams will simply say we are bigger and stronger than you so we will run the ball down your throat for the whole game. This simplicity is allowed because some college teams are much more talented than others. The need to confuse the opposition isn’t a necessity when they can’t stand a play they know you are going to run. Those are some of the differences between NFL and college football teams.Keep looking, there’s more: Free Football Picks – College Football 2011-2012 Preview

You’ve got your http://www.direct.tv satellite ready and you’ve even planned a football party…here are the teams you need to keep an eye on during the earliest weeks of the season…
University of Georgia: Less than formidable in season’s past, UGA has gone through an intense rebuilding moment and is ready to play. With his job likely on the line coach Mark Richt has a lot to prove and just the right lineup to prove it once and for all.
Oregon: Coming out of the gate at warp speed last year, Oregon’s offense hasn’t gotten any weaker in the offseason. This team is fun to watch and exciting to cheer for…unless you’re an opponent.
Alabama: The perennial favorite in the SEC the Crimson Tide is back this year with a vengeance. After the 2011-2012 season there will be little doubt who comes out the winner in the Alabama football battle.

The AFC or American Football Conference is made up of 4 sub-divisions that each have 4 teams. The divisions are separated geographically and named East, West, North and South. With a total of 16 teams in the AFC, the conference boasts some of the best talent and teams in the NFL including the Pittsburgh Steelers who have won the most Super Bowls in NFL History with 6.

Along with Pittsburgh, there a number of other teams that have been successful in the NFL. Most notably in recent years, the New England Patriots have been arguably the most successful team in the league. Quarterback Tom Brady is a three time league MVP and has another four or five years left of his career. Despite having less Super Bowls than the NFC Conference, they consistently bring the most talented and most respected teams out every season. The New York Jets have been making waves in recent years thanks to a wealth of new and young talent. Along with a very outspoken coach in Rex Ryan, the Jets seem to always make an impact in the league. Other teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers and the up and coming Kansas City Chiefs have all been threatening to become the next Super Bowl champion.

The rest of the teams in the AFC have been improving year and year out. Expect to see an AFC team raise the Lombardi Trophy in 2012.

American football is a game which mixes elements of brute strength, finesse, and strategy, the object of which is for one team to score more points than their opponent. To the new fan, the game can appear to be quite confusing at first, but if you take your time, enjoy the excitement generated by a long touchdown run, a beautifully thrown pass, or a rattling hit that you almost feel yourself, the game can infect you with its appeal, and before you know it, you find yourself wanting to learn more, about the history, the rules, and the subtle variations that find the game being played on asphalt playgrounds in city schoolyards, in brightly lit stadiums in small towns on Friday nights. You will find it being played on any crisp autumn Saturday afternoon on college campuses large and small, where the air is filled with sounds of marching bands and excited cheerleaders. For the total fan, there is nothing like the game played at its highest level, where rabid fans and athletes, conditioned and trained mentally to perform at their peak, play on Sunday afternoons in the NFL. There is much to learn about the game, but the idea here is to expose the reader to the most basic of reasons to enjoy American football; the potential for all the elements to come together to provide a memorable and exciting experience.
